A Japanese Grant of US$ 60,779 for the Project for Renewal of Kitchen Equipment to Support Income Generation for Women from Low Income Families

The Government of Japan has decided to extend a grant of sixty thousand seven hundred and seventy-nine US dollars (US$ 60,779) to the Circassian Charity Association Woman’s Branch (CCA) for the provision of kitchen equipment under the scheme called Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Human Security Projects (GGP).

A Grant Contract was signed on March 4th, 2019 by H.E. Mr. Hidenao Yanagi, Ambassador of Japan to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and Mrs. Sura Khawaj, President of CCA.

This grant assistance aims to provide more job training and working opportunities mainly for the women from low income families through the renewal of kitchen equipment at “Samawer” kitchen.  Since its establishment in 1971, CCA has worked towards empowering Jordanian women by providing them with access to employment opportunities. 

Through the development of CCA’s activities, “Samawer” kitchen was established in 1998 and initially offered employment to 4 low income women. It has substantially grown through the support of the Embassy of Japan and now enables to employ 66 staff. With the new kitchen equipment provided by Japan,more job training and working opportunities will be provided at the “Samawer” kitchen.

At the signing ceremony, Ambassador Yanagi expressed his gratitude to CCA’s great contribution to the society and stated: “The Government of Japan placed great value on the work of CCA, because this project aims to provide more vocational training and job opportunities mainly for women from low income families through the renewal of kitchen equipment.The empowerment of women is an important goal for Japan.”

Under Japanese Grant Assistance for Grass-Roots Human Security Projects, Japan has extended around ten million US Dollars for 147 projects to non-governmental organizations, schools, hospitals, and local governments in Jordan since 1993.
