Care for Petra Campaign Working to Protect Historic Site

Care For Petra, a campaign to raise awareness of a variety of conservation and welfare issues at the historic site has been launched . The campaign is addressed to the visitors of Petra site to mitigate the impacts induced by mass tourism on the site and on the local communities, and to improve the tourist experience.

The campaign targets the elimination of child labour, a better welfare for the working animals and the improvement of the protection of Petra heritage. Indeed, the campaign recommends not to buy any object of service from children, to follow some recommendations when using animals for their care and their welfare and to respect some rules for limiting the degradation of the monuments.

The campaign involves the visitor as a key actor for reaching those aims, as the visitor has effectively, by his influence, the power for changing wrong habits and attitudes that we see on the site.
