The government has launched a JD 50 million scheme to fit photovoltaic solar systems to all of Jordan’s 6,000 mosques in a green-minded move that’s expected to shave JD 7 million off their annual energy bill.
The Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs is collaborating with the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources to carry out the project. “It will save a lot of money because the mosque’s bills are very high,” said Ahmad Abu Saa, a representative canada goose Foxe Bomber of the Renewable Energy Department at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources.
Hamza Ibdah from the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs explained that the time frame for the completion of the project would depend on the availability of funds. Ibdah said that there have also been efforts from communities, through the local management of the mosques, to collaborate with the project in order to speed up the installation process. So far, 40 mosques have initiated the solar installments, including the Abu Ghaweileh mosque, which has already gone solar and now sells surplus power to the main grid.
